Emergency Food Relief for Flood Victims in rural Vietnam, Kon Tum Province
DANA is not a charity group which usually gets involved in emergency relief.
But our founder received urgent S.O.S messages from Kon Tum province, Vietnam early December, where the road access and houses in the villages have been destroyed by massive flood, isolating thousands of villagers. The children were crying in the dark, cold and hungry.
The volunteer in that village wrote in the message ” At the moment, the children are struggling with food, especially after the flood, they don’t have food to eat. They only wish to have rice with salt or soy sauce. They would never dream about meat or fish. I don’t know how long I can keep going with this…”
Our founder has visited this area before, it’s basically an abandoned rural village located deep in the mountain and lack resource. The children were starving and some have lost their guardians to the flood.
After our emergency fund raising internally, within 4 days, we have successfully raised AUD 4688 in total for massive flood emergency food relief for Kon Tum province, Vietnam.
We have transferred the total amount of AUD 4688 = 80 millions of VND to the volunteers in Vietnam.
With the money, we have successfully donated
304 packs of rice (10kg per pack)
200 boxes of instant noodles
200 bottles of Fish sauce
200 bottles of Soy sauce
160 kg of Dried fish
210 packs of sugar
120 packs of salt
200 bottles of Cooking Oil (1L / bottle)
The delivery to the villages was extremely challenging, the vehicles needed to drive through rapid currents resulting from flood water running off the mountain. Many thanks to the skillful drivers who were willing to risk themselves to transport the food to Dak Nen and Mang Buk Village (Kon Tum Province, Vietnam).
We received a Thank- you message from the recipients after the donation:
The following translation was made based on the original Vietnamese message.
“Thank you all for sharing love with the people in Kon Tum land. First of all, they have food and the essential things that they need the most for now. Therefore it was less strenuous, less dangerous for them to go out looking for food on rainy days. Secondly, you encouraged people to survive through this challenging time and warmed their hearts with this good act. They know, no matter how difficult they are, there is still love and companionship for them. Through this, I realised that everyone’s love, no matter who you are, no matter what country you are, no matter your skin colour, whether you are rich or poor, it all does not matter, You are so wonderful. You have generous hearts, and you have compassion for everyone. When you saw that they were less fortunate, they were poor, and your heart sobbed, you offered to help and support.
One day I walked at noon, it was very hot, and my sandals were broken, I kept walking for a short distance and couldn’t stand it anymore, I wish that would be better sandals to be shared with me. Our life too, if we can share, it is also wonderful. Thank you for your kindness.
May God bless your work with all the best, and keep your family safe, happy, and healthy, and full of joy. Thanks”
